Therapeutic Massage
This massage session uses multiple effective modalities and techniques to address your specific areas of concern. Helping you heal from an injury or chronic pain, reduce scar tissue, reduce pain and inflammation, improve range of motion and help you move with ease. This session is effective and also educational, outlining the probable cause of pain and the plan for treatment as well as suggested stretches or movements that you can do in between appointments to help facilitate your own healing and well being.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma is defined by anything that is considered deeply distressing and out of one’s control leaving behind emotional and physical impact. Most people have some form of trauma whether it be acute (caused by sudden major events), chronic (caused by repeated ongoing stressful events) or complex (caused by multiple major events over time). When it comes to trauma our body keeps the score. The nervous system stays stuck in a sympathetic state, keeping the body in a “fight or flight” pattern that cannot recognize the passing of time. The fascia is the primary “holder” of these patterns. When receiving massage, specifically Myofascial Release work, the opening of those holding patterns is likely and even necessary to release the pain associated with that pattern, even if you don’t remember consciously what the trauma was that brought on the pattern in the first place. Emotional responses can and do happen and are all a part of your healing journey. And remember that you are at the center of your healing and your therapist will work with you to hold safe space at all times.
Relaxing Swedish Massage
This massage session is also effective and therapeutic however the approach is different. The soothing Swedish technique calms the nervous system and relaxes the muscles, reducing stress and improving sleep and mobility. Pressure is adjusted to your preference although tends to be lighter than a “deep tissue” massage.
Reiki/Energy Work
Reiki is the channeling of universal life force energy from the practitioner to the recipient. This energy helps the recipient begin to heal oneself. This is not a religious concept but rather an energetic and scientific one. Based on more than 100 years of documented evidence based results even our western medicine hospitals and rehabs have begun to incorporate this technique showing incredible results. During this session the therapist will lay hands lightly or may not touch at all. You may feel the flow of energy as a tingling or warm sensation accompanied by deep relaxation. The benefits of this include reduced pain, relaxation, regulated breathing and improved sleep and mood.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
This specialized technique focuses on the connective tissue called fascia. Fascia is a three dimensional sheath woven through the entire body. It coats each muscle, it is woven into each muscle fiber, connects the muscle to the bone and holds the organs in place. Fascia contains approximately 250 million nerve endings (approximately 10 times denser than muscle tissue) making it the body’s largest sensory organ. This means that if you are feeling chronic pain and tension it is 10 times more likely that you are feeling the fascia, not the muscle.
This technique differs from typical massage in that the pressure used is lighter with longer sustained holds (up to 3 to 5 minutes). No lotion or oil is used as the friction on the skin is needed to hold at the fascial lines. This is a dialog with your nervous system, communicating to your body that it is ok to let go of long term holding patterns. During the session you may feel a slight stretching sensation of the skin, soft pressure of the hands and as the fascial line opens up you will feel warmth and tingling signaling that blood flow and circulation have moved back into the restricted tissue. You may feel these sensations locally where the therapist is working or in other parts of the body that are connected to the fascial line.
The result is improved body posture and mechanics, improved circulation, fluid mobility and reduced pain and inflammation often with longer lasting results compared to other massage modalities.
